Want to Build Your List? You Must Increase Your Exposure! Do it in 3 Easy Steps.
Posted by LeeAug 31
It has been said may times that “the money is in the list”. So, just what is this “list” that appears to have the all-mighty dollar held hostage?
Your list is simply people who have signed-up to receive information from you from time to time regarding a certian subject (such as the topic of your blog).
But, where do you get people to build your list? The obvious answer is to increase your exposure on the internet to reach as many people as possible, to increase the chance of getting people to join your list.
One quick and simple way to do this is to increase the number of sites that get “pinged” every time you post to your blog. This is easily done when you have a WordPress blog.
Below is how to do it, plus, a list of sites to add to your “ping” list.
- login to your blog
- Next select “Settings”, then “Writing” and then “Update Services”.
- Copy and paste the list of URL’s into the text box of “Update Services” and click “Save Changes” at the bottom of the page.

It is as easy as that!! Now each of these sites will be “pinged” to let them know that you have entered a new post on your blog and that there is fresh content for them to share with their visitors.
Enjoy and happy posting!!

Jeanette and Tom,
Thanks for the feedback. These links were given to me, so, I thought that I should pass it forward to everyone to use!!
Will visit ya both soon!;)
Take care,

One thing you want to be careful with is not having too many of these links. Some ISPs get cranky with the heavy bandwidth caused and may shut you down.
There’s also the risk of being spammy.
I use this plugin:
MaxBlogPress Ping Optimizer
to ensure pinging only upon publication. It prevents repinging on updates which can get you blocked by many of the sites.

Thanks for the tip about pings. I copied and pasted it in already
All the Pings, trackbacks, RSSfeeds, bookmarking, digg, technori, etc etc etc is really a mystery to me.
I guess I am old school enough that the on line and blogging vocabulary hasn’t fully taken affect yet.
When someone like you just give some straight forward simple instructions it really helps even if I don’t know exactly what and how pinging is going to increase my blog traffic. If it does, yeaaaaaaa !!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks again

Hi I’m Trevor
Twiter ID: Trevor_T_Jones
I am a student of Alex Jeffreys I have been looking around at fellow students blogs and came across yours. Definitely one of the best. I felt I had to leave a comment because your blog is simply, so inspirational and informative, It has given me hope and ideas to better mine.
It is so clean and fresh looking. I am always worried I overdo it myself, to much content you know. Your blog is just right. I would appreciate if you would pass comment on mine just to confirm I haven’t overdone it. On my blog I am doing a theme on successful internet marketers. Really like to know what you think as I am pretty new to all this layout stuff. I hope one day that I can write about your internet success. Keep up the good work

Hey Trevor,
Thanks for your thoughtful comment!!
I took a look at your blog as you requested. There is a lot going on there! My personal feeling is that there are way too many ads. While monitizing your blog is OK, it can be over-done. You want to remember your primary goal is to provide quality content. If your readers are bomb-barded with ads, they can ealily become distracted and leave. Another thing I noticed is that the entire blog will not fit on my screen (I use a laptop, standard size) and I must use the scroll bars at the bottom to see the entire page. While this is not a show-stopper for myself, it can a deal breaker for some readers and they will click-away before they even look at a little of your blog. The overall layout you have is good for SEO: Content on the left, Columns on the right.
I think you may benefit from my latest post regarding free backlinks. Check it out…www.leeberlemann.com
Also, I received a note from a fellow student regarding the increased pinging. Currently Wordpress pings every time you make a change to your blog. Some ISP’s may get pissed that this is taking up too much bandwidth. So, he suggested a plugin that will only ping when you publish a new blog subject. I suggest you add this plugin. Be sure to edit it (through your WP dashboard) and follow the directions for proper activation. Here is the name: “MaxBlogPress Ping Optimizer”.
Keep up the good work!
